Child, 3, Dies after Hillsborough Crash, FHP Says

Two others were seriously injured, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A 3-year-old child died of injuries received in a traffic crash Wednesday (Feb. 1), according to the Florida Highway Patrol

Jacob Bustos, 3, of Wimauma, died at Tampa General Hospital where he was taken after the crash. Troopers said Marbella Valencia-Bustos, 20;Guadalupe Bustos-Benitez, 30; Loylo Mirella Valencia, 10; Adrian Rivera, 1; Valeria Rivera (exact age unavailable); and Jonathan Bustos, 4, were all taken to Tampa General. Valencia-Bustos, Adrian Rivera and Jonathan Bustos all had minor injuries. Valeria Rivera and Loylo Mirella Valencia had serious injuries. Bustos-Benitez was not injured. All are from Wimauma, troopers said, and all were in a 2002 Chevrolet utility vehicle driven by Valencia-Bustos.

No one in the other vehicle was injured, according to the FHP.

The crash happened about 7:55 p.m. at the intersection of State Road 674 and 27th Street SE. Troopers said a 2001 Toyota Camry driven by John Rutland, 38, of Ruskin, was southbound on 27th Street, attempting to cross SR 674 when it collided with the driver’s side of the Chevrolet. The Chevrolet spun and overturned, troopers said. Troopers said Rutland had been drinking.
