Central Avenue Crash Kills Motorcyclist

He was traveling at high speed and weaving through traffic, St. Petersburg police said.

ST. PETERBURG – A motorcyclist died Saturday (Feb. 16) of injuries he received in a crash on Central Avenue, the St. Petersburg Police Department said.

Maxwell William McMahan, 20, died at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, where he was taken after the crash.

The crash happened about 4:50 p.m. on Central Avenue near Causeway Boulevard.

Police said Mr. McMahan was traveling west at high speeds on Central Avenue on a 2013 Honda motorcycle. He was weaving through several cars when the motorcycle hit the center median curb. The motorcycle spun, flipped and struck a pole before
it stopped in the westbound median lane. Mr. McMahan, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown from the motorcycle.

Debris was strewn all over the road, and may have been struck or driven over by other vehicles.

Anyone with information about vehicles that were struck, or ran over anything in the area, is asked to call the St. Petersburg Police Department at (727) 893-7780.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.
