Car Crashes into Pinellas Park Business

The driver backed the car out of the building and tried to leave but was stopped by a witness, the Pinellas Park Police Department said.

PINELLAS PARK – Pinellas Park police are investigating a traffic crash involving a single car that drove into the front of a building.

The crash happened about 4:30 p.m. Friday  (May 25) at the check cashing business at 8560 49th St. N.

Police said that Richard Cogan, 60, of Pinellas Park, tried to park his 2007 Hyundai Accent in front of the business as he was headed to a neighboring business in the same plaza. While
attempting to park, Cogan hit the gas and drove his car up over the curb and into the front of the check cashing store.

Wtinesses told police Cogan then backed his vehicle out of the building and tried to drive away. Cogan was having difficulties operating his car and a witness was able to stop the care as officers arrived.

Cogan was taken to the hospital out of precaution but sustained no injuries.

A DUI investigation was conducted based on signs of impairment police said they saw. The investigation is ongoing as investigators will await the toxicology results in the coming days. Charges are pending and will be based on the toxicology results, officers said.
