Brooksville Man Dies in Rear-End Crash

A second Brooksville man suffered serious injuries, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

PASCO COUNTY – One man died and a second was seriously injured in a rear-end crash this morning (March 21) in Pasco County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Brian Ray Baxter, 27, of Brooksville, died at the scene. Mr. Baxter was a passenger in one of the vehicles. The driver of that vehicle, Daniel Edmund Baxter, 34, of Brooksville, was taken to Bayonet Point Regional Medical Center with serious injuries. The other driver was not injured.

The crash happened about 6:06 a.m. on State Road 589 south of County Line Road. Troopers said Daniel Baxter was driving a 2017 Toyota Corolla south on SR 589 when he rear-ended a 2012 International semi tractor-trailer driven by John Edward Preston, 56, of Hudson, that was slowing for other traffic.
