He lost control of his pickup truck and went into oncoming traffic, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

PASCO COUNTY – A Brooksville man died Friday (July 21) of injuries he received in a crash in Pasco County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Michael James Prater, 38, of Brooksville, died at Bayonet Point Hospital where he was airlifted after the crash. The other driver, Robert Wayne Rutherford, 48, of Lake Panasoffkee, received minor injuries but was not taken to a hospital.

The crash happened about 1:25 p.m. on Bellamy Brothers Boulevard approaching a curve at Bent Fork Road. Mr. Prater was driving a 2001 Ford Ranger south on Bellamy Brothers when he lost control of the pickup truck. The pickup strayed into the path of an oncoming Ford F450 that Rutherford was driving north on Bellamy Brothers. The two trucks collided. Alcohol did not appear to be a factor, troopers said.
