Bicyclist, Motorcyclist Injured in Gulfport Crash

Pinellas County sheriff’s deputies say they are investigating the crash.

GULFPORT – A bicyclist and motorcyclist were both injured this morning (July 16) when their vehicles collided at a Gulfport intersection, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

None Yulip, 73, of Largo, and James Perry, 51, of St. Petersburg, were both taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg. Yulip sustained non-life threatening injuries as a result of the crash. Perry suffered life threatening injuries. Both are expected to make full recoveries, deputies said.

The crash happened about 6:21 a.m. on 49th Street S at Newton Avenue. Tulip was driving a 1998 Yamaha motorcycle south on 49th in the curb lane just south of Newton. Perry, was crossing 49th from east to west when he crossed into the path of Yulip’s motorcycle, causing the collision, deputies said.

Deputies said Perry was not using a designated crosswalk at the time of the crash and showed signs of impairment. Speed was not a factor.
