Bicyclist Seriously Injured in Fifth Avenue Crash

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, St. Petersburg police said.

ST. PETERSBURG – A bicyclist was seriously injured Saturday (Nov. 24) evening in a traffic crash on Fifth Avenue N, the St. Petersburg Police Department said.

Darrell Williams, 60, was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg with life threatening injuries.

The crash happened about 6:26 p.m. mid-block on Fifth Avenue N between 35th and 36th streets N.

A 2018 Jeep Wrangler driven by Matthew Meeks, 33, was westbound on Fifth Avenue. Williams was crossing Fifth and rode into the Jeep’s path. Police said the Jeep swerved to avoid the collision, but was unable to do so and hit Williams. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
