Bicyclist Dies of Injuries Received in Bayside Bridge Crash

The bicyclist was on the paved shoulder when hit, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

PINELLAS COUNTY – A bicyclist has died of injuries he received when he was hit while riding on the Bayside Bridge, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Stephen Xavier Alimonda, 52, of Palm Harbor, died Sunday (June 25) at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg where he was taken after the crash. He was not wearing a helmet. Clement W. Dumas, 62, of New Port Richey, the driver of the SUV, was not injured, troopers said.

The crash happened about 6:12 a.m. Friday (June 23) on the southbound lanes of the Bayside Bridge. Troopers said Alimonda was riding a bike on the paved outside shoulder of the bridge when he was hit by a 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe that was driven by Dumas. The Santa Fe had left its lane and entered the shoulder.
