Bicyclist Dies in Hillsborough Hit and Run Crash

Deputies are searching for the vehicle, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – Deputies are searching for a hit and run driver who hit and killed a bicyclist early this morning (Aug. 5), the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.

Johnny L. Arrington, 53, died of injuries he received in the crash.

Deputies said that, sometime between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m., an unknown vehicle traveling southbound on 78th Street hit Mr. Arrington near the intersection of Eau Claire Circle. The unknown vehicle fled the scene, leaving Mr. Arrington and his 26-inch red Mongoose Element in the street. It is unclear if a car or truck hit Mr. Arrington, but deputies said it will have front end damage including at least one busted headlight, likely the right front. Also, there will be damage to one of the right side tire rims.
