Bicyclist Critically Injured in Clearwater Hit and Run Crash

Clearwater police are searching for the driver of the pickup truck that hit the bicyclist.

CLEARWATER – A Dunedin man on a bicycle was critically injured Tuesday (May 30) in a hit and run crash on Cleveland Street, according to the Clearwater Police Department.

Joseph Samson, 34, of Dunedin was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg with life threatening injuries. He was listed in critical condition this morning (May 31).

The crash happened about 9:43 p.m. at the intersection of Cleveland Street and Fredrica Avenue. Samson was southbound between Fredrica and Betty Lane. A pickup truck was eastbound on Cleveland when it hit the bicycle, police said.

Police said thy are still searching for the driver and truck, which is thought to be dark in color and might have an extended cab and could have front end damage. Anyone with information on the case should call (727) 562-4242.
