Bicyclist Critically Injured in Bayside Bridge Crash

The bicyclist was on the paved shoulder when hit, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

PINELLAS COUNTY – A bicyclist was critically injured in a crash on the Bayside Bridge on Friday (June 23), the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Stephen Xavier Alimonda, 52, of Palm Harbor, was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg with critical injuries. He was not wearing a helmet. Clement W. Dumas, 62, of New Port Richey, the driver of the SUV, was not injured, troopers said.

The crash happened about 6:12 a.m. on the southbound lanes of the Bayside Bridge. Troopers said Alimonda was riding a bike on the paved outside shoulder of the bridge when he was hit by a 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe that was driven by Dumas. The Santa Fe had left its lane and entered the shoulder.
