Bicyclist Critical After East Lake Crash

The bicyclist rode into the path of an oncoming car, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

EAST LAKE – A Tampa bicyclist was critically injured Wednesday (Nov. 1) when he was hit by an oncoming car, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

William Craig Gilbreath, 57, of Tampa, was taken by air to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg in critical condition. He was not wearing a helmet.

The crash happened about 3 p.m. at the intersection of East Lake and Keystone roads.

Martha Jarrett, 70, of Palm Harbor, was driving a 2011 Hyundai Sonata south on East Lake Road. Troopers said she entered the intersection of East Lake and Keystone with a green light. The bicyclist, who was headed west on Keystone, also entered the intersection into the Hyundai’s path.
