FHP troopers said a tire blew out.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A 1-year-old baby and two others were seriously injured in a one-vehicle crash on I-75, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Paisley Pina, 1; Frankie Cacio, 15; and Cheyenne Horne, 22, all of Land O’ Lakes, were taken to Tampa General Hospital in serious condition. The driver, Jose Pina, 21, of Land O’ Lakes, suffered minor injuries but was not taken to a hospital. Horne was not wearing a seat belt, troopers said. All others were wearing seat belts or otherwise restrained.

The crash happened about 9:30 p.m. Saturday (April 13) on northbound I-75 at about mile marker 270 north of Bruce B. Downs Boulevard in Hillsborough County.

Troopers said Jose Pina was driving a 1998 Ford Explorer northbound in the center lane of I-75 when the left rear tire blew out.

Pina lost control of the Explorer, which left the road, entered the grass median, hit a guardrail, and overturned several times before coming to rest on its roof.

No charges are pending.
