ATV Driver Critical after Hillsborough Crash

The driver was thrown from the vehicle after hitting a utility pole, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A Ruskin man is in critical condition after crashing his ATV on Friday (Feb. 3) night, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Ricardo Ramirez, 20, of Ruskin, was listed in critical condition at Tampa General Hospital where he was taken after the crash. He was not wearing a helmet, troopers said.

The crash happened about 8:06 p.m. on U.S. 301 north of Brody Boulevard. Ramirez was driving his 2003 Yamaha ATV north on the outside shoulder of U.S. 301 when he hit a fire hydrant. After that, troopers said, the ATV collided with a utility pole and Ramirez was thrown from the Yamaha.
