34th Street Crash Kills Man Who Was Pushing Wheelchair

The trailer a truck was pulling shoved the wheelchair into him.

ST. PETERSBURG – A man died of injuries he received when he was hit while pushing a wheelchair across 34th Street N , the St. Petersburg Police Department said.

George Fletcher Ball, 64, died at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg where he was taken after the crash.

The crash happened about 6:15 p.m. Monday (Nov. 5) in the 1700 block of 34th Street N.

A 1999 Chevrolet Silveraldo 2500 pickup truck pulling a 16-foot trailer, driven by James Adam Fraser, 82, was northbound on 34th Street N in the median lane. Mr. Bell was
crossing midblock in the 1700 block of 34th Street from west to east.

Police said Mr. Ball, who was pushing a wheelchair, stopped on the median; however, he placed the wheelchair in the northbound traffic lane of 34th.

The Chevrolet swerved to avoid the wheelchair, however the trailer hit the wheelchair and pushed it into Mr. Ball.

Fraser faces no charges at this time but police said the investigation is ongoing.
