ST. PETERSBURG – A man died of injuries he received when he was hit while pushing a wheelchair across 34th Street N , the St. Petersburg Police Department said.

George Fletcher Ball, 64, died at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg where he was taken after the crash.

The crash happened about 6:15 p.m. Monday (Nov. 5) in the 1700 block of 34th Street N.

A 1999 Chevrolet Silveraldo 2500 pickup truck pulling a 16-foot trailer, driven by James Adam Fraser, 82, was northbound on 34th Street N in the median lane. Mr. Bell was
crossing midblock in the 1700 block of 34th Street from west to east.

Police said Mr. Ball, who was pushing a wheelchair, stopped on the median; however, he placed the wheelchair in the northbound traffic lane of 34th.

The Chevrolet swerved to avoid the wheelchair, however the trailer hit the wheelchair and pushed it into Mr. Ball.
