Clemson University wide receiver Artavis Scott is an East Lake High School alumni. The Pinellas County School District spoke with him about returning home to play in Monday’s game. Here’s their story.

PINELLAS COUNTY – Artavis Scott is familiar with East Lake High.

He spent four years walking the halls and ruling the home football field where he was a standout.

Monday, the recent Clemson University graduate will be home again. Scott is in his final season as a member of Clemson’s football team and will play in the College Football National Championship game against Alabama. The game will be held at Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium. Scott leaves Clemson with a communications degree and as the career receptions leader with 241 catches, thus far.

How does it feel to play in the championship game?
It feels good playing in front of my hometown. It’s a great opportunity and it’s going to be awesome.

What will be your biggest memory about playing football at Clemson?
Running down the hill. That’s something that never gets old and enjoying the moments with the brothers on team. Another moment is the day I got saved. It was Easter of 2014 and it was just a blessing. From there on, my life has been changed.

How was your time at East Lake High?

My time at East Lake was unreal. I had some of my best moments there. I built a lot of good relationships which includes my best friend Pete DiNovo (Pete was East Lake’s quarterback while Scott was there). I received a lot of support from East Lake and I try to represent East Lake wherever I go.

Who was your favorite teacher at East Lake High?

Mrs. (Patricia) Fleck. Something about her drew me towards her. I always had a great relationship with her. She always had positive things to say to me.

What would you say to other athletes looking to play college football?

Never give up. When you are faced with adversity, never give up. Keep pushing each and everyday. God has a plan for you and he didn’t put in a position to fail. Never give up and keep following your dreams.
