USA Today Chooses Holocaust Museum as No. 1 in Pinellas

The museum was chosen as the No. 1 museum to visit out of a list of 10 in the St. Petersburg-Clearwater area.

ST. PETERSBURG – The Florida Holocaust Museum is the No. 1 museum to visit in the St. Petersburg-Clearwater area, according to a to 10 list compiled by USA Today.

Michelle da Silva Richmond, who compiled the list after visiting the museums, said, “One of the most impressive is the Florida Holocaust Museum, where that sad chapter in history is reverently honored.”

The other nine: the Gulf Beaches Historical Museum, the Dunedin Historical Museum, the Leepa Rattner Museum of Art, Great Explorations Children’s Museum, Tampa Bay Automobile Museum, St. Petersburg Museum of History, Armed Forces Military Museum, Museum of Fine Arts and the Dali Museum.

News of the No. 1 ranking comes as the Holocaust Museum begins its 25th anniversary year.

For the past 25 years, the museum’s focus has been to tell the story of millions who suffered or died during the Holocaust through the personal testimonies, official documentation, photographs and artifacts of individual narratives. The Holocaust Museum features permanent exhibitions of one-of-a-kind artifacts from the Holocaust and traveling exhibitions of art and history. Its educational programs and resources for students and teachers are used throughout the state of Florida and beyond. The FHM is one of only three Holocaust museums accredited by the American Alliance of Museums and uses the lessons of the past to help create a better future for all.

The Holocaust Museum, 55 5th Street S, St. Petersburg, is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
