A mini-season is today and tomorrow, with the full season beginning Aug. 6.

FLORIDA — About 38,000 recreational divers are expected to hunt for spiny lobsters up and down Florida coasts during a two-day mini-season today (July 29) and Thursday (July 30.) The full season will begin Aug. 6 and continue through March 31, 2016.

The Florida Keys are considered prime hunting grounds and those areas typically are packed with divers because of the clear water. But the tasty crustaceans can be found along the state’s east coast from Miami to St. Augustine. They live on Florida’s west coast, too, often hiding in artificial reefs and near rocks and ledges.

The limit is six per person per day for Monroe County and Biscayne National park, 12 per person per day for the rest of Florida.
