Strawberry Festival Kicks Off on Thursday

This year’s festival features 24 entertainment artists and much more.
PLANT CITY — One of the biggest events on the Tampa Bay community calendar begins Thursday (March 2), as the 2017 Florida Strawberry Festival opens to celebrate the strawberry harvest of eastern Hillsborough County.
Running through March 12, the festival will once again be held on the event’s property at 2209 Oak Ave. in Plant City and feature 24 headline entertainment artists, a midway, youth livestock shows and plenty of strawberry shortcake.
Gates will open daily at 10 a.m. and close at 10 p.m. with admission costing $10 for ages 13 and over and $5 for children ages 6-12. Children under five get in for free with a paid adult admission. Festival-goers can purchase discounted admission tickets in advance at select Publix grocery stores.
The festival offers many specials throughout its 11-day run, including discounted admission for patrons 60 and over on Florida Blue Senior Citizens Day on Thursday (March 2) and Thursday (March 9) and discounted midway vouchers on Coca-Cola Family Day on Sunday (March 12). Several big name musical acts will perform on the Wish Farms Soundstage including 2017 Presidential Inauguration performers 3 Doors Down on Saturday (March 4), R&B legend Pattie LaBelle on Saturday (March 11) and country superstars Rascall Flatts on the festival’s final night. Reserved seating for all shows can be purchased in advance online.
The theme for this year’s festival is “We’re Playing Your Song” and Drew Knotts will serve as the 2017 Florida Strawberry Festival Queen.
Parking is be available in lots on Florida Strawberry Festival property on Ritter Street, off Highway 92 or Highway 574 and costs $5 for cars, trucks and vans under 20 feet.
