St. Pete Named One of South’s ’10 Best Food Towns’
Others on the Garden & Gun list include Charleston, SC; New Orleans, and Asheville, NC.
St. Pete is featured in the October / November issue of Garden & Gun, which hit newsstands this week. The feature story highlights St. Petersburg as an emerging food town to visit and includes a comprehensive food tour.
“Food and travel are a vital part of the Southern lifestyle, and these 10 towns represent some of the most vibrant dining destinations in the region,” said David DiBenedetto, senior vice president and editor in chief. “Ideally these weekend itineraries reveal the personality and the spirit of these towns, not to mention fabulous food and drink.”
Local hotspots in the St. Petersburg food tour include Green Bench Brewing, Mandarin Hide, Intermezzo Coffee & Cocktails, Empire Oyster, the Urban Canning Company, LOCALE Market, the Reading Room and Ichicoro Ane.
“Garden & Gun is a respected and sophisticated voice in the culinary and travel space, so for it to recognize St. Pete as an emerging food town speaks volumes about the destination,” said Visit St. Pete/Clearwater President and CEO David Downing. “Accolades like this continue to confirm how diverse the destination is beyond the beaches with a world-class art scene and tremendous local cuisine.”
The magazine noted that St. Pete/Clearwater is the most popular destination on the Gulf of Mexico with 35 miles of white-sand beaches. Affirming the area’s growing reputation as a top international destination, the New York Times listed St. Pete in its ranking of Top 52 Best Places to Visit, in the company of the world’s most “vibrant cities and spectacular coastlines, unexpected sports and new attractions.” A big reason why is St. Pete’s cultural scene that’s made up of the Dali Museum, Chihuly Collection and more than 70 urban murals. And for the fourth year in a row, St. Pete/Clearwater garnered more recognition than any other Florida destination on TripAdvisor’s Traveler’s Choice Awards of Top 25 U.S. Beaches, including local favorites, St. Pete Beach at No. 3 and Clearwater Beach at No. 4. Along with accolades, St. Pete/Clearwater is enjoying an unprecedented craft beer boom, with almost 40 craft breweries, the most in the entire state of Florida, including the oldest in Dunedin.
Other towns on the Garden & Gun list include Asheville, NC, Charleston, SC, Nashville, TN, New Orleans, LA, Richmond, VA, Birmingham, AL, Greenville, SC, Knoxville, TN and Raleigh, NC.
