Pasco Names Art of Recycling Winners

Pasco art students competed to create the best art from recycled trash.

PASCO COUNTY -The dust has settled. The winners of the 2016 Art of Recycling contesthave been announced.

The winners were presented their certificates and prize money throughout the week at their schools. Prizes were awarded in 15 categories each carrying a$100 cash prize. First, second and third place overall received $500, $300 and $200 respectively. One big prize is still to be awarded-thelucky winner of an Art of Recycling $1,000 college scholarship.

The art was judged on many themes, such as Best Use of Aluminum, Best Use of Plastic, Most Innovative, and Best Environmental Concept.

“It’s wonderful to see so much creativity among our youth,” said Pasco County Commissioner Mike Moore, who handed out awards to winners at Ridgewood High School on Friday.“What these students do with everyday recyclable material is unbelievable and how they make it into art is really something to be celebrated.”

The full exhibition ison display through Feb. 26 at the West Pasco Government Center, 8731Citizens Drive. After that, the 15 winning pieces will move to the Pasco County District School Board for display through April 1.

This event is a cooperative project of the District School Board of Pasco County, Pasco CountyRecycling and Education, Keep Pasco Beautiful and the Pasco Arts Council.The Pasco Art of Recycling contest and exhibit was implemented to help increase awareness of the Arts and to encourage the practice of recycling.
