ST. PETERSBURG – Two veterans of recent wars will be honored this morning at a Veterans Day celebration in Williams Park.

The two are Carrie W. Nero, BGen, ANC, USAR (Ret), who served our country during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm and rose to the rank of brigadier general during her 30-year career in the U. S. Army Reserves, and Charles Claybaker, who served as staff sergeant in the U.S. Army 3rd Ranger Battalion during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.

The presentation is part of the city’s Veterans Day celebration that begins at 8 a.m. in Williams Park, on the corner of Fourth Sreet and First Avenue N. This is the fourth consecutive year that Mayor Rick Kriseman will recognize local veterans by presenting the 2017 Honored Veteran Award.

A quartet from the Gibbs High School Pinellas County Center for the Arts will perform the National Anthem.

Previous Honored Veterans are:  Herbert Polson, in November 2014; Willie Rodgers, in 2015; and Michael Jernigan, in 2016. This is the second year that residents have nominated the veterans who will be recognized.
