The expo, the largest of its kind in Tampa Bay, will emphasize the importance of taking actions before a major disaster to ensure you can recover successfully and thrive after a storm.

TAMPA BAY – It’s hard to believe, but the June 1 start of the 2016 hurricane season is just 26 days away.

And emergency officials from around the Tampa Bay area are emphasizing that it’s important to be prepared in case a storm comes our way. Preparedness is the theme of this year’s Tampa Bay Hurricane Expo. The event, the largest of its kind in the Tampa Bay area, will give residents and businesses a chance to have fun and learn what to do before, during, and after a storm.

The expo is scheduled 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday (May 14) at the Museum of Science & Industry, 4801 E Fowler Ave., Tampa. Expo admission and parking are free.

National expert Dr. Phil Klotzbach, the author of Colorado State University’s hurricane predictions and successor to the late Dr. William Gray, will answer visitors’ questions and share his insights. Meteorologists from every Tampa Bay area TV station and the National Weather Service, plus local disaster response experts, will share tips on protecting your family and your home.

Kids can enjoy family-friendly games from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Lightning, and Rays while adults learn from guest speakers and vendors, who are ready to prepare your family with hurricane information and equipment to protect your home. Climb aboard more than a dozen emergency vehicles; see up-close safety demonstrations and educational displays; and visit vendors of safety products, home retrofit projects, and more.

Parking and admission to the expo are free. Plus, enjoy a special offer for $5 admission to MOSI (normally $26.95 for adults) to enjoy all of MOSI’s 450 hands-on exhibits until 6 p.m. Admission includes Disasterville, the Kids In Charge! children’s science center, 3D Printing: the Exhibition, and more. The $5 admission also includes the incredible new IMAX® movie A Beautiful Planet, filmed by astronauts in space, showing in the Florida Hospital IMAX® DOME Theatre.

The 2016 Tampa Bay Hurricane Expo is a partnership of MOSI, the city of Tampa, and Hillsborough County.
