Florida State Fair Opens

The 113th version of the amusement-and-exhibition extravaganza begins today (Feb. 9) and runs through Feb. 20. 

TAMPA — Light up the midway, put on your boots!

The Florida State Fair with its usual array of thrill rides and exhibits in aquaculture, horticulture, woodcarving, needlework and much more opens today (Feb. 9) at the fairgrounds east of Tampa. And yes, bragging rights are still won for the prized bull, best pie and the most beautiful quilt. The fair showcases both nostalgia and modern achievement — oh, plus Jack Russell Terrier and lawnmower races, among other diversions.

Here are some basics:

Hours: Opens 10 a.m. at the gate Monday through Thursday; 9 a.m. on Friday, Saturday. and Sunday; 9 a.m. 0pening on Monday, Feb. 20. Midway hours vary.

Location: The fairgrounds are at 4800 U.S. Highway 301 N, Tampa.

Tickets: $11 adults, $6 children Mondays through Thursdays; $13 adults, $7 children Fridays through Sundays. There are some special deals and special days, including $5 Fridays after 5 p.m. on Feb. 17. More information: floridastatefair.com
