Florida Senior Games Begin This Weekend in Clearwater

The Florida Senior Games are an annual Olympic-style sports festival for athletes age 50 and over with 24 sports and events.

CLEARWATER – This city will host the 2016 Florida Senior Games, which run Saturday (Dec. 3) through Dec. 11.

The Florida Senior Games Series is a multi-sport event program for adults 50 and over. The series consists of events throughout Florida leading up to the Florida Senior Games in December, where winners of various statewide qualifiers compete to take the gold medal. The Florida Senior Games is also a destination for top athletes from across the globe.

This is the second year the finals will be held in the Tampa Bay area. Games will take place at various Clearwater area facilities including Joe Dimaggio Sports Complex, Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club, Clearwater High School, Ross Norton Recreation Center, the Long Center and elsewhere.

The Florida Senior Games consists of 24 sports and events, including: archery, bag toss, billards, croquet, fencing, lawn bowls, powerlifting, race walk, racquetball, road race, volleyball, bowling, horseshoes, shuffleboard and more.

These Olympic-style games are dedicated to encouraging and promoting healthy lifestyles for Florida’s Seniors, providing Florida’s Seniors with the opportunity to compete at the local, state and national levels and providing all Senior citizens of Florida with an affordable and quality multi-sport festival they can call their own games.
