SEMINOLE – For the fourth consecutive year, the Kiwanis Breakfast Club of Seminole and the city have teamed up to display the Field of Honor.

This year, there are 305 “sponsored” flags in front of Seminole City Hall, 9199 113th St. N, and the next-door Post Office. The flags are dedicated to veterans who have given their lives to protecting American freedom.

The Field of Honor was first displayed in 2015 with 24 flags. The next year, 175 flags fllew and, in 2017, the display grew to 212 flags causing the display to expand to the Post Office property.

This year’s Field of Honor Ceremony – a standing room only event – was held Friday (Nov. 2) in the City Council Chamber. The Seminole firefigherter honor guard posted the colors, Kiwanian Loren Price, lead the Pledge of Allegiance, Captain Stanly Beach, U.S. Navy, Ret., gave the invocation.

Keynote speaker was Col. Cary Harbaugh, U.S. Special Operations Command, MacDill Air Force Base. U.S Rep. Charlie Crist, D-St. Petersburg participated, and Gold Star father Craig Gross, sang a tribute to his son, Frank, who was killed-in-action in 2011.

The flags will be on display until Dec. 1.
