Ana Menéndez has been a reporter, columnist and is the author of four fictional books.

ST. PETERSBURG – Award-winning author and columnist Ana Menéndez will speak on Storytelling for Social Justice.

Menéndez has published four books of fiction: Adios, Happy Homeland!; The Last War; Loving Che; and In Cuba I Was a German Shepherd, whose title story won a Pushcart Prize. She has worked as a journalist in the U.S. and abroad, lastly as a prize-winning columnist for the Miami Herald.

As a reporter, Menéndez wrote about Cuba, Haiti, Kashmir, Afghanistan and India, where she was based for three years. Her work has appeared in a variety of publications including Vogue, Bomb Magazine, the New York Times and Tin House and has been included in several anthologies, including the Norton Anthology of Latino Literature. A former Fulbright Scholar in Egypt, she is now at Florida International University in Miami, where she helps direct programming highlighting the humanities and their importance to a just and democratic society. She lives in Surfside with her family.

This event is co-hosted by the University of South Florida-St. Petersburg, Allendale United Methodist Church, League of Women Voters of the St. Petersburg Area, Fired Up Pinellas, Indivisible FL-13, Unitarian Universalists Clearwater and Unitarian Universalist St Petersburg.
