More Than 400 Families Get Food at Pinellas Farm Share Event
The food giveaway Friday (July 28) was a joint effort between Farm Share and Pinellas County.
LARGO – Hundreds of Pinellas County families have fresh food to eat after the Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners and community partners teamed up with Farm Share to give away fresh produce and groceries Friday (July 28) at the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Largo.
Farm Share provided nearly 16,000 pounds of food with volunteers handing out bags of groceries to more than 400 families. Surplus food items were donated to local charities and non-profit organizations.
The commission partnered with several community organizations, including Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, the Friends of Ridgecrest, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, WellCare, Lowe’s, Home Depot, Sam’s Club, Panera Bread and Publix. The county’s involvement in the Farm Share program is part of a continuous effort to ensure public welfare by distributing healthy foods to citizens most in need.
Farm Share is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the distribution of nutritious foods to those in need. It serves as a link between farmers with surplus produce and social service agencies in Florida and throughout the southeastern U.S. Last year, Farm Share served more than 4 million Florida households and distributed 33 million pounds of food to families in need.
