Woman Found Dead in Tampa Fire

Four Tampa police officers were injured, according to Tampa Fire Rescue.

TAMPA – A woman died and four Tampa police officers were injured during a house fire this morning (March 8), according to Tampa Fire Rescue.

Valerie Fleming, 57, died at the scene. Three of the police officers were taken to Tampa General Hospital and treated for smoke inhalation. They were treated and released. The fourth officer was treated at the scene.

Tampa Fire Rescue was called to the fire at 3405 E Fern St. about 7:30 a.m. Tampa police were there when firefighters arrived. Four police officers went into the home to try saving any victims inside. The officers found the woman and pulled her outside, but she had already died, firefighters said.

The fire was under control by 7:45 a.m.

The Arson Task Force was called out, which fireifghters said is standard when there is fire-related death. The fire does not appear suspicious at this time.
