A passerby reported the blaze, Hernando firefighters said.

BROOKSVILLE – A passerby called 911 Wednesday (Nov. 21) to report what appeared to be a fire in the woods.

But when firefighters arrived on Mitchell Road in Brooksville, they found a fully involved house fire and not a wildland fire as reported, according to Hernando County Fire Rescue. They called for backup and began an aggressive defensive attack to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading into the surrounding woods.

It is unknown at this time if there were any occupants in the home at the time of the fire, which is currently under investigation by the Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office.

HCFR units on scene included three fire engines, two rescues, two water tenders and two battalion chiefs, for a total of nine units and 15 personnel on scene.
