BRANDON – Two people received minor injuries and a home was signficantly damaged during a fire that began late this morning (Nov. 12) in Brandon, according to Hillsborough County Fire Rescue.

The two people who were injured were taken to the hospital for evaluation. No firefighters were injured. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Firefighters said they were called to a home at 711 Sailfish Drive about 11:50 a.m. When they arrived, firefighters saw heavy smoke and fire coming from the eaves of the home. There were also two jet ski’s, a truck, a 24-foot jet boat in the driveway, and some used tires.

Family members of the homeowners were in the driveway removing the watercraft and tires by hand. These activities partially blocked Sailfish Drive and made it difficult for fire crews to get to the fire. It also resulted in minor injuries to two family members after a boat trailer collapsed, firefighters said. Fire crews helped clear the way and were able to get to the fire.

It took about 45 minutes to bring the fire under control, firefighters said. It had moved quickly through the home and caused significant damage as well as minor damage to a neighboring home and fence. There were no reports of damage to any of the watercraft or the truck.
