Officers tried to use a Taser but she kept charging them while holding a knife, the Tarpon Springs Police Department said.

TARPON SPRINGS – A woman died of wounds she received Friday (March 9) when a police officer shot her after she charged while waving a knife, the Tarpon Springs Police Department said.

Alkeeta Allena Walker, 32, died at Florida Hospital-North Pinellas where she was taken after the shooting. Officers said her last known address was in Raleigh, NC.

Officer Matt Geer, who fired two round from his department-issued .45-caliber Glock, has worked for the Tarpon Springs department since March 17, 2005. He is on paid administrative leave, which is department policy in such cases. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will be conducting an investigation into the incident, which is also department protocol.

Police received a call for service in the 400 block of Riverside Drive about 10:05 a.m. They were told that a woman was saying something to the effect of “call the police.”

Two officers found Ms. Walker at 442 Riverside Drive. While talking with her, police said she produced at least one knife and charged the officers. A Taser was deployed and struck Ms. Walker but did not stop her. She continued to charge the officers while holding the knife.

Geer fell while backing up, but Ms. Walker continued advancing while holding the knife. Geer fired and hit her.
