Tampa Man, Using Chainsaw, Dies in Accident

He was cutting branches in a tree at a neighboring home.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A man died Monday (Sept. 11) when a chainsaw he was using kicked up and cut him, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.

Wilfredo Hernandez, 55, of Tampa, died at the scene.

Paramedics were called to Town N Country Boulvard about 5:41 p.m. because of an accidental injury. Mr. Hernandez, who lived nearby, was using a chainsaw in a tree, dropping branches he was cutting. Deputies said a branch became entangled with the chainsaw, which kicked up and cut Mr. Hernandez in his carotid artery.

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue used a harness to lower him from the tree. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
