Firefighters were called to the used furniture store at 10:35p.m. and had the fire under control by 1 a.m.

TAMPA – One firefighter received minor injuries while fighting a blaze at Southern Used Furniture, according to Tampa Fire Rescue.

The firefighter was taken to a hospital. No other injuries have been reported.

Firefighters were called to Southern Used Furniture, 8133 N Nebraska Ave., about 10:35 p.m. Sunday (June 18). When they arrived, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the
single-story industrial brick structure.

The first arriving crew called for a second alarm because of the building’s contents and because it was close to other buildings. Crews entered the building but had to leave at one point because there was a flashover, a sudden expansion of the fire that engulfed the entire room in flames. The building’s roof also collapsed.

Two aerial units sprayed water from an elevated position through the collapsed roof. The Tampa Police Department air service provided a video downlink to help the incident commander by showing hot spots.

By 1 a.m. this morning (June 19). the fire was under control. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the one unit, preventing major damage to the adjacent businesses.

Fire investigators are at the store to discover the source and the cause of the fire.
