Employees were also evacuated from a Wawa after a cooler was found.

PINELLAS PARK – A Wawa and nearby roads were closed early this morning (Sept. 24) after a suspicious package was found at the gas station, Pinellas Park police said.

The package turned out to be an empty cooler.

Police said they were called to the Wawa, 6200 34th St. N, just after 5 a.m. for a report about a suspicious package. When officers arrived, they saw what appeared to be a small closed cooler sitting next to the vapor lines that go to and from the underground gas tanks.

Pinellas Park officers notified the Tampa Police Department bomb squad and the Pinellas County Fire Department hazmat team as a precaution. Employees from the Wawa were also temporally evacuated and the roads surrounding the business were temporally blocked out of an abundance of precaution, officers said.

Bomb squad members cleared the package as an empty cooler. All roads in the area are back open as is the Wawa. Police said there is no reason to believe that the cooler was left with any intention of committing a crime.
