The park was evacuated and closed Sunday because of the threat from wildfires.

PASCO COUNTY – Starkey Wilderness Park, closed Sunday (April 30) because of a threat from wildfires, is scheduled to reopen this morning (May 1), Pasco County officials said.

The park, 10500 Wilderness Park Blvd., New Port Richey, will be open regular hours.

The Gladstone Fire is 90 percent contained and has burned approximately 40 acres. The fire at PAW Materials in Odessa is out and Pasco County Fire Rescue is wrapping up operations there, officials said.

All lanes are open on State Road 54 in both directions east of Gunn Highway. SR 54 was down to one lane to allow firefighters and equipment easier access to the fire. Drivers are asked to use caution in the area overnight Sunday into Monday as smoke will still be drifting across the road at times.

Pasco County Fire Rescue and the Sheriff’s Office are on the scene overnight to monitor the fire and surrounding neighborhoods.
