Firefighters had been called to the home and saw she and her husband needed help.

SEMINOLE – When firefighter paramedics from the Seminole Fire Department were called to the of the home of Beverly and Jan Gladkowski, they noticed something.

There was no easy way for Mrs. Gladkowski to get in and out of her home in her wheelchair. So, they decided to do something about it.

Jeremy Newton, head of Seminole Professional 2896, went over to the Gladkowskits home and measure for a ramp. The union bought the 6-foot long, ADA compliant ramp and three union members spent part of Saturday (Nov. 3) installing it.

“We have a resident in our response area who has to utilize our services often because of some physical limitations. In an effort to assist her with in getting in and out of her house, reducing the stress on her family and reducing the number of 911 calls to the residence, the Seminole Firefighters Union members got together, purchased a commercial wheelchair ramp, delivered and installed it for our resident,” Newton said.

Firefighters, he said, were glad to be able to help the Gladkowskis “on a more personal level than our normal professional department response.”

Jan Gladkowski said he was thrilled with the help.

“Everybidy really went out of their way to give us some badly needed help when we needed it,” he said. “We can’t thank everybody enough, especially the Seminole fire union.”
