Plant City Gets New Fire Chief

David Burnett is an 11-year veteran of the Plant City Fire Rescue Department.

PLANT CITY – David Burnett has become this city’s new fire chief.

City Manager Bill McDaniel announced on Wednesday (July 25) his decision to promote Burnett to oversee the Plant City Fire Rescue Department.

Burnett was one of two finalists for the position and emerged as the top candidate after a multi-level selection process conducted by city staff.

Burnett has a long history in the fire service. Burnett has been employed with Plant City for 11 years. He has twice served as the city’s interim fire chief, as well as deputy fire chief, during his tenure. Before joining Plant City Fire Rescue in 2007, Burnett already had two decades’ experience, including three and a half years as fire chief in Chiefland and about six years as chief of the Midway Fire District near Pensacola.

Burnett was promoted during a ceremony held Wednesday at Plant City’s Fire Station One. Surrounded by men and women of the Fire Rescue Department, City Manager Bill McDaniel presented Burnett with the
insignia of his new position.

Burnett made a short speech after his promotion during which he dedicated himself to the overall improvement of the Fire Rescue Department.
