The department is investigating an incident of “misconduct” by officers sent to the Panhandle.

PINELLAS PARK – The Pinellas Park Police Department is investigating an allegation of “misconduct” by officers sent to the Panhandle to help out in the aftermath of Hurricane Michael.

Details of the allegation are unknown. The department sent out a statement late Monday (Nov. 5):

“On Oct. 26, 2018, Pinellas Park Police administration learned of an allegation of potential misconduct by several members of the agency who deployed to the Panhandle in support of Hurricane Michael recovery efforts.

“As a result of an initial inquiry, Chief [Michael] Haworth ordered an internal affairs investigation to determine the facts and circumstances of the allegation. The investigation is administrative in nature and all employees currently remain on the job working their normal assignments.

“The investigation is in its preliminary stages and per FSS 112.532(4b), no additional information will be released at this time. The investigation is expected to take several weeks and additional information will be released upon its conclusion.”
