Accreditation by the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation was part of a three-year strategic plan for the Pinellas Park Police Department.

PINELLAS PARK – The Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation met Feb. 21 and voted unanimously to award accreditation to the Pinellas Park Police Department.

A team of assessors from the CFA conducted a thorough onsite assessment of the department in November. The team examined all aspects of the department’s policies, procedures, management, operations, and support services. The assessors found the agency in full compliance with 200 standards that were applicable to the agency.

The assessment team described the department as fully committed to the accreditation process. Team members said the PPPD operates like an agency that has been accredited for 15 or more
years, rather than an agency achieving accredited status for the first time.

“This process allows our department to ensure we are following industry best practices, and is a major step in the agency’s constant pursuit of professionalism,” Pinellas Park police Chief Mike Haworth said.

Achieving this status provides the Pinellas Park community and its citizens with the knowledge and assurance that the police department is operating under the highest of standards set forth by the state of Florida, officials said. The department’s core values of integrity, service, professionalism, and dedication helped guide the agency through the accreditation process. These same
values and accredited status will serve as a solid foundation from which the agency will continue to grow and better serve the community.

Officials said accreditation is one step in a three-year strategic plan that set out a series of goals and objectives for the PPPD in consultation with members of our community.
