Largo Police Officer Injured during Struggle with Hospital Patient

The patient died after the struggle, according to the Largo Police Department.

LARGO – One person is dead and a police officer is in the hospital after a struggle with an out-of-control hospital patient, the Largo Police Department said.

The identity of the dead patient was not released pending notification of next of kin. Police did not release the name or condition of the officer.

Officers were called to Largo Medical of Indian Rocks, 2025 Indian Rocks Road, about 4:07 p.m. Tuesday (March 21) because a patient was out of control and battering staff members. The first officers who arrived called for backup because the patient was violently fighting them. Police said the patient was eventually restrained and went into cardiac arrest. The hospital staff worked on the patient who was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.
