Chad Pittman comes from Palm Harbor Fire Rescue where he is a deputy chief.

LARGO – After a national search, Largo found its new fire chief at a local department.

Chad Pittman, deputy chief of Palm Harbor Fire Rescue, will be the new chief of Largo Fire Rescue. The announcement was made today (Aug. 29) by Largo City Manager Henry Schubert. Pittman’s tentative start date is Oct. 4.

“Chief Pittman is dedicated to our vision of being the Community of Choice in Tampa Bay,” Schubert said.

Pittman has been employed by Palm Harbor since September 1992, rising through the ranks to his current position of deputy chief of operations in December 2013. He earned a bachelors degree in Public Safety Administration from St. Petersburg College and a masters degree in Public Administration from Troy University. He was graduated from the Executive Fire Officer program at the National Fire Academy and has received the Chief Fire Officer designation from the Center for Public Safety Excellence. Among his many professional certifications, he is a certified paramedic.

The selection of Pittman is the result of a two-day selection process conducted last week that included fire station tours and a public meet and greet session. Interviews were conducted by three separate teams comprised of the city manager, assistant city manager, police chief, and human resources director; fire rescue department management staff; and an employee team that included union representatives.

“This inclusive process has resulted in the selection of a new chief that I am confident will provide exceptional leadership to the Fire Rescue Department and to the overall city government as a member of our executive leadership team,” Schubert said.
