Donna Lusczynski is the first woman to attain that rank in the Hillsborough Sheriff’s Office.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – Donna Lusczynski made history this morning (May 7) when she was promoted to be the first woman chief deputy in the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

Her promotion, the first to that rank in 14 years for the department, came during a special ceremony in front of a packed room of more than 350 people.

“This is about talent, merit and proven service not only to the agency but most importantly to the deputies we lead,” Hillsborough Sheriff Chad Chronister said. “Donna Lusczynski is simply the best of the best and I am proud to stand with her as the new chief deputy. She has already made a significant impact on the fabric of this institution, but I know the best is yet to come with her
helping guide the way.”

Lusczynski joined HCSO in 1991 and has worked her way up the ranks. Along the way, she was assigned to almost every position in the agency including successful turns in high visibility assignments like street crimes, narcotics, vice and internal affairs. As a major, she was the division commander of both the Special Investigations Division and the Criminal Investigations Division.

“It is that connection to the street and never forgetting her law enforcement roots that sets her apart and makes her perfect for this new role,” Sgt. Chris Rule said. “She is a deputy first and she has never forgotten that. She is extremely well respected because she has always been the kind of leader who puts us first. She knows what we go through because she did it with us. That is the best you could ask for.”

The position of chief deputy is the highest rank an individual may be promoted to within the Hillsborough Sheriff’s Office. Lusczynski will be responsible for helping to run the office on a day-to-day basis including directing operations, managing multi-million dollar budgets and leading law enforcement duties.

Lusczynski earned her bachelors of science degree in Criminology from the University of Tampa, a master’s degree in Public Administration from Troy State University, and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the Mendoza College of Business Executive Leadership and Management School.

She was born in New York City, grew up in Roxbury, NJ, and has been a resident of Hillsborough for more than 30 years.
