Hillsborough Deputies Target Drunk Drivers, Underage Drinkers
Hillsborough deputies will be out in force this St. Patrick’s Day weekend.
HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office will have deputies saturating roadways across the county this St Patrick’s Day weekend.
In addition to searching for drunk drivers, deputies will have an eye out for underage people trying to buy alcohol.
Ahead of the holiday, Sheriff Chad Chronister released a public service announcement on social media to young people warning them about the risks of trying to use fake identifications to buy drinks.
“If you get caught trying to use a counterfeit driver’s license, it’s a third degree felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine,” Chronister said. “It’s just not worth it. Please, don’t get a record
and destroy your future this St Patrick’s day.”
The legal drinking age in Florida is 21. Anyone younger than that in possession of alcohol can be charged with a second-degree misdemeanor and face court fees and fines.
