HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A late afternoon fire Saturday (Nov. 11) closed eastbound Causeway Boulevard for hours while firefighters battled to put out the blaze, Hillsborough Fire Rescue said.
No injuries were reported. The cause is under investigation.
Hillsborough firefighters were called to a warehouse fire at Plantain Products Co. in the 5800 block of Causeway Boulevard about 5 p.m. When they arrived, they found heavy smoke coming from the roof of the building and a heavy blaze inside the warehouse. They called for a second alarm.
Three ladder trucks were stationed on three sides of the building and firefighters using handheld hoses were also placed around the metal building to fight the flames.
It took about four hours to bring the fire under control, and firefighters remained on the scene until late in the night to make sure the fire was out.
Eastbound Causeway at S 58th St. remained closed late into the night.
