East Lake firefighters will offer tips on keeping homes safe from wildfires.

EAST LAKE – Warm weather and prolonged periods of dry conditions have put Pinellas County at risk for wildfires.

As part of ongoing efforts to ensure a safe and secure community for homeowners and citizens during the current dry conditions, East Lake Fire Rescue is hosting Wildfire Prevention Day from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday (May 6) at the Brooker Creek Preserve Educational Center, 3490 Keystone Road, Tarpon Springs. The free event is open to the public.

Organizers want to address the topic of fire prevention because of the presence of large areas of natural land in close proximity to urban development in the community. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about ways to protect their homes from wildfires with presentations from agency partners including: the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Florida Department of Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Florida Division of Forestry, Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office and East Lake Fire Rescue’s Community Emergency Response Team.

During this event, officials will demonstrate and educate all attendees on the proper steps homeowners can take to keep their home protected from wildfires. The goal is to address risks within our community and prevent the devastation caused by wild land fires.
