TAMPA – One person died and another woman was seriously injured in a house fire Sunday (Jan. 7), Tampa Fire Rescue said.

A third woman escaped safely, firefighters said.

Names of the victims were not released Sunday.

Firefighters were called to the home at 2211 E 28th Ave. about 3:06 p.m. The first crew on scene found the single-story masonry brick structure fully ablaze. Firefighters immediately began putting water on the flames while searching for victims inside the home. Firefighters had the fire under control by 4 p.m.

One woman was outside the home after being pulled away from the flames by a neighbor. She was taken to Tampa General as a trauma alert with injuries sustained in the fire. One woman escaped the fire, but firefighters said, another adult died inside the home.

The Arson Task Force was notified, which is standard protocol whenever there is a fatality at a fire scene. The Arson Task Force is made up of representatives from the Tampa fire marshal’s office, Tampa police department, ATF, State fire marshal’s office and the State Attorney’s office. The task force will investigate to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
