Construction Worker Dead After Friend’s Gun Fires

The friend, a co-worker of the dead man, said the gun accidentally fired, according to Hillsborough deputies.

RIVERVIEW – A construction worker died Wednesday (May 8) after he was shot when a co-worker’s gun discharged, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.

The names of those involved were not available. Deputies said the injured man was pronounced dead at a local hospital where he was taken after the shooting.

Deputies said they received a call of a shooting about 1:45 p.m. in the 8900 block of Riverlachen Way in Riverview. The house deputies responded to was under construction.

The shooter, who is part of the construction team, told deputies he had just gotten out of his vehicle and was moving his gun from his waist band to his pocket when he accidentally tripped and his gun fired. The victim, who was working on the roof, was shot.

The individual who shot the gun is cooperating with HCSO. The shooter told detectives he and the victim are long-time friends.
