CLEARWATER – The Coast Guard rescued three people Saturday (April 20) after their 25-foot boat capsized in Clearwater Pass.

Rescued were Zephyr Humphries, James Hutton and Leanne Hutton. No injuries were reported.

About 3:30 p.m. Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg watchstanders received a call from a good Samaritan reporting there was a capsized boat in the vicinity of Clearwater Pass with an unknown amount of people in the water.

A Coast Guard Station Sand Key Response Boat-Medium crew was launched and found three people in the water wearing life jackets. The crew recovered all three and ook them back to Station Sand Key.

“Once they knew the boat was going to sink, the mariners gathered their possessions and tightened their lifejackets,” said Petty Officer Third Class Thomas Mann, the coxswain of the response boat. “As they entered the water, they stayed together and our boatcrew was able to locate them immediately and pull them to safety.”

Florida Fish and Wildlife and Clearwater Fire and Rescue also responded.
