Clearwater Police: Man Fired Shots at City Marina

Westbound lanes of Memorial Causeway were closed while Clearwater police talked him into putting down his weapons.

CLEARWATER – A man was taken into custody this morning after he fired a gun three times while at the city’s downtown marina, according to the Clearwater Police Department.

Police said they took the man into custody under the state’s Baker Act.

Officers said they were called to the marina about 3 a.m. after the 58-year-old man  after the man was seen walking around his boat armed with a shotgun and handgun and yelling that his boat had been burglarized. The man fired two shots on his boat and one outside the boat.

Westbound lanes of Memorial Causeway were closed to traffic for about 25 minutes as officers talked him into putting down his weapons. He did so after about 25 minutes.
